Jodi Weinbecker

Sailing Director

sailing@thefyc.org

Jodi grew up in Wisconsin and spent much of her youth on the water on different crafts. Lots of waterskiing, fishing, power boating and a little bit of sailing. She graduated in 1994 from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point with a degree in Heath and Exercise Science and moved to the East Coast for work. She officially caught the “Sailing Bug” in 1995 and has since sailed, raced, and cruised over 20,000 miles both offshore and inshore with her Husband Bill and children Allison and Will. In the beginning, racing and cruising on sailboats was a pastime she enjoyed with her husband and friends and they have won awards and honors along the way. Sailing for sport and recreation eventually turned to teaching sailing as they moved around the country for her husband’s career in the US Coast Guard. More full time sailing instruction started in 2004 and landed her the Waterfront Director job in 2009 at the prestigious Southern Yacht Club in New Orleans running their aggressive year around regatta schedule and directing their highly competitive, nationally recognized Youth Racing Program. In 2013, after years of planning, the Weinbecker’s retired from the Coast Guard life and spent a year traveling both on land and by sea driving 15000 miles cross country and then spending 8 months in the Southern Exuma Island chain of the Bahamas. In 2014, Land life beckoned them back to Jacksonville where they had been previously stationed from 1999-2002 so Jodi could take on the position of Sailing Director at the Florida Yacht Club and help build the program into the dynamic multifaceted program it is today.
